Co-owner of East Greenbush Animal Hospital
Dr. Debbie Chew was born and raised in Southern California. She completed her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at UC Davis. She then completed an internship in small animal surgery and emergency medicine at California Animal Hospital in Santa Monica where she met her husband Dr. Chris Rocchio (a Cornell graduate). After working several years in Northern California, they started a family and chose to move to New York where Dr. Rocchio originated. They built the East Greenbush Animal Hospital as a de novo hospital, boarding, and grooming facility in 2003, which now employs six full-time doctors and over 50 employees. They later added a doggie daycare located in a remodeled church next door to the hospital.
With over 32 years of experience working as a veterinarian, Dr. Chew serves as the owner and medical director of East Greenbush Animal Hospital, where she partnered with VPP in 2024. She feels privileged to work with such a close group of collaborative doctors and dedicated employees. She has a committed practice manager, and they work together to ensure the hospital runs smoothly and efficiently to provide quality care for all its patients. It is an honor to be chosen as a member of the MAB to be a part of guiding and supporting all the VPP hospitals.
Dr. Chew and Dr. Rocchio have two adult children. Their son is completing a 5-year PhD program at Indiana University studying chemical biology, and their daughter is in her third year of medical school at Uniformed Services University at Walter Reed in the United States Army. They enjoy traveling in the winter, especially where nature and wildlife are part of the adventure. Summers in New York, when the weather is beautiful, include bicycling and as much golf as they can fit in.
